Associate Attorney
Represents insurance carriers, TPAs, and self-insured employers in all California workers’ compensation litigation aspects. Manages a full caseload from intake through resolution, including discovery, depositions, settlement negotiations, trial, and lien conferences. Appears regularly before the WCAB for status conferences, MSCs, and trials. Analyzes medical-legal reports and treatment records to assess AOE/COE, apportionment, MMI, and permanent disability exposure. Conducts applicants, witnesses, and medical evaluators depositions. Drafts pleadings, correspondence, settlement documents, and trial briefs in compliance with Labor Code and applicable regulations. Advises clients on litigation strategy, reserve management, return-to-work, and claim resolution. Coordinates with adjusters, employers, and medical professionals to evaluate claim defenses and settlement posture. Ensures timely and accurate billing under UTMBS and client-specific guidelines.

Successfully filed and argued three oppositions to new trial motions on complex, novel issues. Conducted arraignments, bail hearings, and pre-trial conferences for felony and misdemeanor cases. Managed discovery requests and ensured timely compliance. Strategically moved for subpoenas of third-party records to support case development. Negotiated several plea agreements with defense counsel, achieving favorable outcomes. Prepared multiple jury trials, demonstrating readiness and comprehensive case knowledge, though trials were ultimately continued.

Drafted prevailing appellee brief on four issues before the Massachusetts Appeals Court (2023–P–0617) (2023 WL 10351955). Drafted oppositions to motions for a new trial and required finding with adjudicative procedural arguments. Conducted legal research for appellate and trial attorneys on issues of first impression, including the implications of Bruen and Guardado.

Drafted written motions for joinder and transfer from juvenile to adult court under the revised statute, response to order to show good cause, and opposition to a motion to dismiss an information. Created internal memoranda on legal issues such as firearm possession, proffers, and closing argument ethics. Assisted in the e-discovery process, including reviewing, inventorying, and redacting e-discovery documents for the gang murder department, including Perkins operations and NIBIN testing. Observed several gang murder trials and preliminary hearings. Dedicated 366 hours to pro-bono work, supporting legal access and justice for victims.

Facilitated a Deputy District Attorney by arranging witnesses’ testimony and evidence for a felony trial. Drafted memorandum for a subpoena of an FBI Special Agent as an eyewitness. Sat in court with DDAs during misdemeanor calendar duties. Transcribed 911 calls and body-worn camera video. Supported legal assistants in drafting, implementing, and updating the discovery process. Managed the e-discovery process, including requesting, reviewing, and distributing discovery for the misdemeanor department. Performed thousands of hours of pro-bono work over five summers and two school years in hindsight.
